Autobiography
Hello! My name is Rachel Galliart. I am a recent graduate of Loras College, majoring in Elementary Education with a reading endorsement. I was born and raised in Dubuque, though some may say that I am not a true "Dubuquer" because I do not know how to play euchre.
I am from a very loving family of five. My family consists of: my dad, Lyle, my mom, Pat, my older sister, Lauren, and my twin sister, Katie. All of my family members have contributed greatly to who I am today. Without their love and support, I would be a much different person. My parents have always supported my sisters and me in our interests. I have been involved in sports for as long as I can remember. I have played soccer and volleyball all of my life, and even played one year of volleyball at Loras. I believe that sports have taught me the values teamwork, sportsmanship, and hard work. Though I am no longer playing soccer or volleyball at the college level, they continue to have an impact on my life.
I was never a child that knew exactly what I wanted to be when I grew up. I went from wanting to be a veterinarian to becoming a professional soccer player. When I came to Loras, I had no idea what I wanted to major in. How was I supposed to decide what I wanted to do for the rest of my life? I started with the idea of majoring in Integrated Visual Arts. My reason behind this was because I have a great love for photography. After taking a couple of classes, I realized that this major was not for me. In my sophomore year, I decided to try a few education classes. My decision to take these education courses was a result of my summer job. Every summer, I work for Dubuque's Leisure Services, as pictured above. There, I am designated to two parks and I provide games and activities for kids in the neighborhood. I realized that I really enjoy this job, and the reason behind it was the kids. I am now going into my 7th year, and I am still loving it. The kids are what make me come back every summer.
