Teaching Philosophy
The field of education is always changing and developing. As a future teacher, I expect my teaching to also continue to grow and develop. However, there are constants that I hope to see in my teaching career. First, I believe one of the most important aspects of teaching is student-teacher relationships. The reason I got into teaching was because of my enjoyment of working with kids. I believe that a teacher can have the best lesson plans, but if they do not have a good rapport with their students, or a passion of working with children, they will not be successful teachers.
In addition, I believe that a classroom should be a comfortable, safe environment for all students. Students need to feel that they belong in their classroom, and that it is somewhere that they can make mistakes without ridicule. In order to create this positive environment, classroom expectations need to be set on day one. Aspects such as respect, understanding, and kindness need to be modeled by the teacher in order to instill these qualities in one's students.
Furthermore, every classroom is made up of diverse learners. Teachers need to address the needs of every learner. This is done by differentiating one's teaching and getting to know one's students' interests and needs.
I hope to make school a pleasant experience for my future students. This can be achieved by having great student-teacher relationships, creating a positive classroom environment, and by meeting all learner needs.
